About the conference

Prístupne 2025 was a conference on digital accessibility for people with disabilities. The year 2025 saw the second edition of the conference, which is founded on the conviction that the digital world should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability, age or disability. When the principles of digital accessibility are applied correctly, they enable people with disabilities to use websites, mobile applications and electronic documents fully. The aim of the conference was to help create an inclusive digital world by bringing together users with disabilities, accessibility experts, developers, designers and the civil servants who prepare the relevant legislation. See the programme of the Prístupne 2025 conference.

The conference was interpreted into sign language. After registration, we sent participants all the important information by email. During the conference, participants could ask questions via the Slido app; our speakers answered them in the final part of the conference, or participants received a written reply.

The conference was financially supported by the ČSOB Foundation.

What changes from 28 June 2025 - the Act on the Accessibility of Products and Services

The talk focused on the Act on the Accessibility of Products and Services for persons with disabilities (Slovak transposition of the European Accessibility Act), which came into force on 28 June 2025 and, among other things, introduced accessibility requirements for websites and mobile applications, including those of e-shops and internet banking. Who is obliged to make their digital content accessible to people with disabilities?

10:25–10:40

Peter Halada
ÚNSS, Slovakia

The digital environment has its barriers too – the experience of an assistive technology user

Digital products are now an integral part of everyday life – we use them to shop, pay bills, submit energy meter readings and follow our children's school results. But is it really easy for everyone? The talk showed how an everyday user of assistive technologies views digital accessibility from his own experience.

10:40–10:55

Peter Teplický
ÚNSS, prístupne, Slovakia

Digital accessibility and artificial intelligence + prístupneLAB

The talk focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on the accessibility of digital products from the perspective of auditors, developers and designers. We looked at ways of using AI in accessibility testing and in creating inclusive content, but we also mentioned the risks that new technologies can bring. The aim was to show how to integrate AI responsibly into the process of creating accessible solutions. We also presented a new initiative - prístupneLAB, a laboratory for developing innovative products in the field of digital accessibility.

10:55–11:10

Dušana Blašková
ÚNSS, Slovakia

Accessible culture – a matter of course or a luxury?

What does it mean to make a cultural institution accessible to people with visual impairments? How can blind and partially sighted people be involved in accompanying events? What needs to be kept in mind when organising a public event? The talk focused on how blind and partially sighted people perceive art, how abstract paintings, small ornaments or huge architectural gems can be conveyed to them, and how, without major investment or interventions in the historic building of a cultural institution, everyone can leave with an equally intense experience. We also visited theatre and film festivals and city events.

11:10–11:30

Andrej Nemeček
GoodRequest, Slovakia

How to set up company processes that guarantee accessible digital services for everyone

How to set up company processes so that accessibility becomes a natural part of developing digital products and services. Participants learnt how to divide responsibilities within a team, which steps to build into the development cycle and what a sustainable approach to digital inclusion involves.

11:30–11:45

Andrea Dobrotka, Pavol Roman
Centre for Barrier-Free Communication, Slovakia

Online tlmočník

The talk showed how a simple QR code can give sign language users access to information and full communication, what was new in the Online tlmočník service and where it has been integrated.

11:45–12:00

Natália Centková
Kino Úsmev, Slovakia

Cinemas as a tool for social change

Cinemas can be a powerful driver of positive social change and inclusion. This presentation introduced the concept of “fair cinemas” and inspiring examples from Europe that promote accessibility and equality for diverse audiences.

12:00–13:00

Lunch

The lunch break was an opportunity for refreshments and informal conversations, not only about accessibility.

13:00–13:30

Answers to audience questions

Throughout the conference, participants could ask questions about the accessibility of websites or mobile applications, or about legislation on digital accessibility - in this part of the conference we tried to answer them.

13:30–13:55

A panel discussion devoted to questions and answers about the Act on the Accessibility of Products and Services and how exactly the Act will help people with disabilities. Panellists: Peter Teplický, Andrej Nemeček, Dušana Blašková, Peter Halada, Andrea Dobrotka.
